Church of the Holy Advent
Episcopal Church

Our Rector

The Reverend Canon Peter Larom, Rector

The Reverend Canon Peter Larom serves Holy Advent as our Rector since January, 2012.  Many of us know
Fr. Larom from his previous service here as a supply priest, or from his work at Incarnation Center in Ivoryton.

A native New Yorker, Fr. Larom began his career at Christ Church in Tarrytown, NY where he created the Nightwatch program -- the overnight retreat at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan, which has become the largest youth activity of its kind in the Episcopal Church.  From there Fr. Larom and his wife Margaret, were the first dual appointments from the Episcopal Church to serve in Uganda.  There Fr. Larom was a Department Head at Bishop Tucker College and raised more than $1 Million dollars to rebuild the College after the ravages of Idi Amin.  Margaret served as editor of “The New Century”, the Church of Uganda newspaper. For his work in Uganda he was made an honorary Canon by the Archbishop.  From Uganda Fr. Larom was then called to Grace Church in White Plains, NY, where his development efforts resulted in several community programs, a celebrity attended yearly fundraiser and a $4 Million endowment for the Church.  For his efforts, Fr. Larom was awarded The Big Apple Award.  As Executive Director of Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI), the church’s ministry to merchant mariners, Fr. Larom oversaw the Institute’s dramatic expansion and turned a small, yearly fundraising event into an industry benchmark with over 1,100 in attendance at Chelsea Piers.
Fr. Larom earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell and his Master of Divinity from General Theological Seminary, where he was awarded the Bishop of Newark Preaching Prize and the Dean’s Medal for “inspired leadership and selfless dedication”.  Margaret manages Holy Advent’s Food For All garden, and Peter and Margaret both sing in Holy Advent’s choir.  They have two grown children, two grandchildren and enjoy sailing.
