Vestry

 Lisa Scheffler – Warden

After growing up in the Presbyterian Church, Lisa and her husband Richard were confirmed in the Episcopal Church at St. Michael and St. George in St. Louis, MO, when their children were preschoolers. They moved to Madison (CT) in 1989, and began looking for a new church home. Always moved by the beauty and richness of the Episcopal liturgy, they tried all the local Episcopal churches and were immediately drawn to Holy Advent by the warmth and wonderful welcome extended by its parishioners. The Schefflers have two children, James and Meg, who grew up at Holy Advent, participated in choir and youth group, confirmed, and Meg was married at Holy Advent.  The Schefflers have two granddaughters, both of whom were baptized here. According to Lisa, "Holy Advent is definitely our church family, to whom we owe more than we can say!" Lisa was drawn to offer her service on the Vestry when her career returned she and Richard to Madison full-time, in an effort to give back to the church  family that has given them so much.

Ed Hartman – Warden

Ed and his wife Christine were married at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Milford, CT.  The Hartmans moved to Killingworth in 1999 where they enjoy the shoreline and all that the area has to offer, especially Holy Advent. In their professional lives, Christine is a Project Manager for a Healthcare software company.  Ed is a sales leader for a High Tech company based in San Francisco. Ed started his career in the military and retired after 30 years of combined service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. As members of Holy Advent recognize, saying "no" to Father Peter is virutally impossible. When Ed retired from the Army, he was recruited to the Vestry and currently serves as Junior Warden. Ed adds, "All are called to serve God and our communities as we are able. It is a privilege to work with the wonderful and talented Vestry team." Ed wants to ensure that Holy Advent and its mission are nutured for generations to come. As the Church's sign on the door reads, "All Are Welcome".

Shelly DiAcri - Clerk

Michele "Shelly" DiAcri and her spouse, Frank, have been members of Holy Advent for the past 12 years. They came to Holy Advent looking for a small church community where both their spiritual and social concerns could grow.  They found that Holy Advent nutures their spiritual lives through its liturgies and music, and their concern for others was matched through the church's outreach in the community, the State of CT, and the world. Shelly has served on various committees and has compiled Holy Advent's liturgical roster during that time.  Both she and Frank work on maintaining and beautifying the grounds around the church, as well as helping out with all of Holy Advent's events.

 Bill Russell

Bill and his wife, Joyce, have lived in Clinton for more than 30 years.  Their four children have “left the nest”, but live in the area except for one attending college in Charleston. Bill spent his youth in Virginia and upstate New York as an Episcopalian. He obtained an engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with studies at the City University of London.  He is employed as a consulting engineer serving the aviation/aerospace industry. Bill’s hobbies and interests include sailing, soccer, water sports, and carpentry. “We were drawn to the Church of the Holy Advent by the inspirational preaching of Father Bruce and warmth and welcoming of the parishioners.  I truly feel that it is a special place and I am thrilled to have been asked to serve as Warden and member of the Vestry.  I consider it a privilege and will work hard to continue the fine job that has been done by my predecessors in the last few years.”

 Carol Dowd

Carol is a life-long member of Holy Advent and has served faithfully on the Altar Guild for several years.

Colleen Bloom

Colleen was raised in Clinton and attended Holy Advent growing up. She was baptized, received her first Holy Communion, and was confirmed at Holy Advent. Colleen attended Mercy High School in Middletown where she was able to explore her Christian faith further, and also taught church school.  Colleen and her husband Jason were married in 2005 and have four children -- Carrie (8), Travis (5), Caden (3), and Taryn (2). The Blooms love to go on family vacations, especially to Disney World. Colleen teaches 7th grade U.S. History at Eliot Middle School in Clinton. She has always considered Holy Advent to be "her church", and she has a deep appreciation for the Holy Advent family. All of the Bloom's children have been baptized at Holy Advent.  Her parents moved to Clinton from Hamden in the late 1960's and served The Church of the Holy Advent in various capacities over the years.  Colleen is honored to serve on the Vestry and follow in their footsteps.

Joan Rawlings

Joan Rawlings, along with her husband Nick, joined Holy Advent last year. Joan has found the church community to be very warm and welcoming and she appreciates the strong commitment to outreach, especially with the Food for All garden, where she volunteered last season. She also enjoys the music during the services and at other events throughout the year. She is happy to be serving on the vestry during this anniversary year.
