Vestry

 Lisa Scheffler – Warden

After growing up in the Presbyterian Church, Lisa and her husbandRichard were confirmed in the Episcopal Church at St. Michael and St. George in St. Louis, MO, when their children were preschoolers. They moved to Madison (CT) in 1989, and began looking for a new church home. Always moved by the beauty and richness of the Episcopal liturgy, they tried all the local Episcopal churches and were immediately drawn to Holy Advent by the warmth and wonderful welcome extended by its parishioners. The Schefflers have two children, James and Meg, who grew up at Holy Advent, participated in choir and youth group, confirmed, and Meg was married at Holy Advent.  The Schefflers have two granddaughters, both of whom were baptized here. According to Lisa, "Holy Advent is definitely our church family, to whom we owe more than we can say!" Lisa was drawn to offer her service on the Vestry when her career returned she and Richard to Madison full-time, in an effort to give back to the church  family that has given them so much.

Ed Hartman – Warden

Ed and his wife Christine were married at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Milford, CT.  The Hartmans moved to Killingworth in 1999 where they enjoy the shoreline and all that the area has to offer, especially Holy Advent. In their professional lives, Christine is a Project Manager for a Healthcare software company.  Ed is a sales leader for a High Tech company based in San Francisco. Ed started his career in the military and retired after 30 years of combined service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. As members of Holy Advent recognize, saying "no" to Father Peter is virutally impossible. When Ed retired from the Army, he was recruited to the Vestry and currently serves as Junior Warden. Ed adds, "All are called to serve God and our communities as we are able. It is a privilege to work with the wonderful and talented Vestry team." Ed wants to ensure that Holy Advent and its mission are nutured for generations to come. As the Church's sign on the door reads, "All Are Welcome".

 Barbara Zettergren – Treasurer

A Connecticut native, Barbara was baptized, confirmed, and married in Our Saviour Church in Plainville.  She moved to New Britain to raise her four children: John, Craig, Greta & Kevin and joined St. Mark’s Church.  She was a Sunday school teacher, member of the adult choir, member of the women’s groups and Treasurer while attending St Mark’s.  Barbara moved to Clinton and has been a member of Holy Advent for the past 10 years.  Ask Barbara about her 10 grandchildren, the lights of her life.  Barbara is also the Business Manager of Incarnation Center in Ivoryton.  Her interests are reading, enjoying her grandchildren, & cooking. The call to serve came through a luncheon meeting with Father Bruce.  Barbara says, "Who can say no to Father Bruce???"  She decided it was her time to serve and use her many talents at Holy Advent.

Shelly DiAcri - Clerk

Michele "Shelly" DiAcri and her spouse, Frank, have been members of Holy Advent for the past 12 years. They came to Holy Advent looking for a small church community where both their spiritual and social concerns could grow.  They found that Holy Advent nutures their spiritual lives through its liturgies and music, and their concern for others was matched through the church's outreach in the community, the State of CT, and the world. Shelly has served on various committees and has compiled Holy Advent's liturgical roster during that time.  Both she and Frank work on maintaining and beautifying the grounds around the church, as well as helping out with all of Holy Advent's events.

Bill’s hobbies and interests include sailing, soccer, water sports, and carpentry. “We were drawn to the Church of the Holy Advent by the inspirational preaching of Father Bruce and warmth and welcoming of the parishioners.  I truly feel that it is a special place and I am thrilled to have been asked to serve as Warden and member of the Vestry.  I consider it a privilege and will work hard to continue the fine job that has been done by my predecessors in the last few years.”
